The Texas Quote of the Day:
"I hope that a dead calm will reign over Texas for many more years to come ---- and that there will be no excitement whatsoever."
----- Stephen F. Austin, writing in his diary while imprisoned in Mexico, February 6, 1835. His hope was in vain: less than 15 months later and after a wild series of events that included the Battle of the Alamo and the Battle of San Jacinto, Texas would become an independent nation and less than two years later Austin would pass away.
Texanness is next to godliness.
