The Peters Colony in What is Now Tarrant County
In 1841, W.S. Peters of Kentucky contracted with the Republic of Texas to bring immigrants to the area that is now Grapevine, Texas, which is in Tarrant County. By 1848 the Peters Colony covered two million acres. Almost 150 families, most of whom were American-born families of modest means, had moved into the area. It was the largest empresario enterprise ever undertaken by the Republic of Texas and helped open the area thereabouts to settlement.
Beauty is only skin deep but Texas is to the bone.
